E-commerce outpaces offline retail in 2001

E-commerce grew by 12 percent in 2001 despite a sluggish U.S. economy and a dismal performance by offline retail, according to a new report from Forrester Research. In recapping 2001, Forrester analyst Carrie Johnson said online retail stood out "in a year that most retailers would otherwise like to forget." Online sales are a silver lining to a year that can only be characterized as a dark cloud for retail," Johnson said. She noted that the National Retail Federation estimated yearly sales growth for all retailers at 2 percent, and that same-store sales were nearly flat in the fourth quarter. Tips and Tricks

A tip for the Dynamic Database Guru's. Often times we get a request from people on how to replace the "More" button with a simple text link. Well here is the solution that will take less then 5 minutes to do. The following requires you to have a solid understanding of HTML & a firm understanding of ASP.

Open the Dynamic.asp page and select the "More" button and replace it with the word "More" or "Detailed" (whatever suits your needs the best) select the text by highlighting it then right-click the highlighted text and click on its "Hyperlink" properties. In the Hyperlink properties window link the text to "More.asp" and click Okay. So now you've linked the text to the More.asp page, which displays the details of the particular product. But wait, we need to tell More.asp what product details it needs to display so now we are going to go to double-click & select the newly text link we've just created and go to the HTML view. In the HTML view, right below the text search for the following Tag: <input type="hidden" name="fmmore"
value="<%=FP_Field(fp_rs,"ProdID")%>">, Originally the form which the button resided in used this hidden form field to tell the "More.asp" page what product to display. We are going to use a different method of telling "More.asp" what product to display. Instead of using a form we are using a Hyperlink. The Hyperlink is going to have two parts to it, the first part is where it is pointing to (More.asp) the second part is what is it going to display? To do this you will need to add the following code right after More.asp in your Hyperlink. Begin with More.asp?fmmore=<%=FP_Field(fp_rs,"ProdID")%> so now the name fmmore is
going to equal to ProdID on your More.asp page! Save the Dynamic page and run view it through your browser and you should the results.

You can do this same thing with an image by making sure that it is hyperlinked and that the hyperlink is pointing to More.asp?fmmore=<%=FP_Field(fp_rs,"ProdID")%>
